ExperienceMelanie Swan Bristol

I have 8 years experience working with individuals, groups, children and families.

I have worked as a Therapist and Team Leader for Barnardo's, Social Services, The NHS, in Primary and Secondary Schools and Bath Social Services. I have taught at Bristol City College, and done sessional work for Bristol Drugs Project.

I have a natural connection to nature, spirit and working Shamanically. I nurture and develop this by working with spirit guides and power animals, fellow shamans, with nature and by taking part in and co-facilitating Sweat Lodge Ceremonies. I have not learnt this stuff from a book, it is from a natural connection, hard work and direct experience.

I am also Chair of the Committee of CAPPP, a networking organisation for therapists and counselors in the South West.

My Approach

My intention is the blend ancient and current wisdoms in order to bring harmony and balance within and without. And so my therapy training gives a psychological understanding and the boundaries within which to work in order that we feel safe and contained. However, the Shamanic work and connection to all of creation then helps us to heal on deeper levels, ultimately transforming and opening up our lives in order that we truly live.

I work intuitively and in partnership with spirit, which is a constantly evolving and developing process. My work develops as I develop.

Qualifications

I hold a post-graduate diploma in Dramatherapy, and am Registered with The Health Professions Council.

I have completed many additional training courses over the years including; Solution Focused Therapy, Working with Sexual Abuse, Working with Domestic Violence, Safeguarding Children, Clinical Supervision, Raising confidence and self-esteem, Webster-Stratton parenting group leader training, How distress manifests in the body, Shamanic Transformation Training, Bear Shamanic Healers Lodge Camp, Spirit of The Drum, and many more.

An essential part of training any person who helps others is to ensure that the person helps themselves and walks their talk. I am committed to my own personal journey and to support this I have engaged in years of individual and group therapy. Currently, I find energy work and working in nature and with ceremony the most supportive and transformational.

I have a current, clear CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) check.
